Sea-Training
The value of sea-training to augment theoretical teaching has been very evident. We have been able to place students on Safmarine containerships for the coastal passage to Durban, and students have also been to Antarctica aboard the South African polar supply ship, thus providing a specially interesting training voyage. Students have also done sea training aboard Unicorn Tankers and visits to ships in port also form a significant part of our training.
Lawhill House - Boarding Facilities
Named after the famous South African sailing ship on which many leaders of the country's maritime industry sailed, Lawhill House provides comfortable accommodation for a limited number of students who live away from Simon's Town and its environs. Cabins accommodate four to five students.
* Television, games and computer facilities are available.
* There are separate facilities for boys and girls.
* Only students doing the Maritime Studies courses on bursaries are accommodated here, and that a very strict code of conduct applies to all Lawhill House boarders.
